Brief History of Northmoor, Missouri

Northmoor is a small city in Platte County, part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The community was officially established in the early 20th century, with a post office operating from 1927 to 1947. The city’s name combines “Moore,” from an early settler, with “North,” referencing its location relative to Kansas City.

One of the most significant events in Northmoor’s history occurred on May 4, 2003, when an F4 tornado struck the town, causing extensive damage to homes, the police station, and City Hall. Despite the destruction, no serious injuries were reported.
